Lebanese American University (LAU) through its Outreach & Civic Engagement Department (OCE) fosters its commitment to student centeredness, civic engagement, the education of the whole person, and the formation of leaders in a diverse world. It has a deeply seated belief in the educational value of simulation models from the pedagogical, cognitive and leadership point of view.

GCI MUN

Global Classrooms International (GCI) Model UN is the flagship education program of the Lebanese American University (LAU). Two international conferences in New York City are held, one conference for middle school students and a separate conference for high school students.

Who we are?

Operated by the United Nations Association of the United States of America (UNA-USA), for the past 15 years, 2016 ushered in a new era as LAU, a partner of UNA-USA, operating a model UN program of its own in Beirut since 2005, took over the prestigious GCI in New York.

Conferences

These conferences engaged more than 4,400 student leaders coming from around the world, including Ivy League universities, and more than 50,000 high school and middle school students coming from 250 schools in 28 countries.

GC LAU MUN

Model United Nations is an international program present in almost every country around the world. The Lebanese American University is its official holder in Lebanon. Model UN is a program built on training High School students, and Middle School students, over the course of training sessions culminating in a two-day final conference.

Who we are?

Model United Nations (MUN) is an internationally known simulation model of the United Nations (UN) and its agencies. A program of the UN Foundation, Global Classrooms (GC) is the UN Association of the United States of America’s (UNA-USA) flagship program. The GC program in the Middle East has been officially and exclusively implemented by the Lebanese American University (LAU). The GC LAU MUN program was first launched in 2005.

The GC LAU MUN program encourages students, coming from diverse socio-economic and sectarian backgrounds, to acknowledge each other’s differences, be emotionally intelligent, think methodically and objectively about United Nations (UN) problems, accept diversity, and gain communication, negotiation, and leadership skills as well as a deep understanding of the global challenges facing the UN.

LAU MAL

The Lebanese American University Model Arab League is an innovative educational program that engages High School and Middle School students in an exploration of current Arab world issues through interactive simulations and curricular materials.

Who we are?

LAUMAL is in partnership with National Council on U.S.-Arab Relations (NCUSAR). LAUMAL simulates the Arab League to allow Middle School and High School students to act as ambassadors for the Arab League countries and tackle the problems of sustainable development, menacing epidemics, poverty, the spread of weapons of mass destruction, and environmental and ecological threats.

Conferences

LAUMAL creates a culture of dissemination of knowledge about the Arab World; Provides leadership training for the largest amount of Arab Youth; Develops an Arab citizen with a deep sense of democratic values and civic engagement; Promoting values of peace, democracy, and justice; Teaches practical leadership skills; Introduces and discussing social, economic, cultural, and political issues facing Arab countries; and Training students on management skills, use of parliamentary procedure, and the dynamics of debating.

LAU MEU

Lebanese American University Model European Union is a prestigious student simulation leadership program with the mission of giving High School students and the community at large the opportunity to deeply explore the European Union through various dimensions. This program enables students to understand the strategic geographic potential of the EU Member States; as well as, their thriving economic and human capabilities. It also focuses on promoting the idea of cooperation and teamwork that is reflected through the interdependence among the EU Member States at the commercial, cultural, and social levels.

Who we are?

LAU MEU is in partnership with Bringing Europeans Together Association (BETA). LAUMEU aims to make students, coming from diverse socio-economic and sectarian backgrounds, acknowledge the differences in one another, and learn how to communicate through their emotional intelligence. We also seek to teach students about the European Union, and how a bloc of countries with many differences united through their diversity for the greater good.

LAU MAU

Lebanese American University Model African Union is an internationally known simulation of the African Union and its agencies. The Lebanese American University is proud to launch its first ever High School Model African Union program. The purpose of the program is to bring High School students and the community at large the opportunity to deeply explore the African Union and its strategic geographic potential. The AU Member States and their thriving economic and human capabilities, and the interconnection and interrelatedness at the commercial, cultural, and social levels will be examined in order to understand the nature of the African continent in world politics.

Who we are?

LAU MAU is in partnership with African Leadership Academy (ALA). The program serves as a platform for young leaders to develop implementable solutions to African development challenges through diplomacy and international cooperation.

Model Good Governance

This new avant-gardist educational program presents a new challenge to High School students in simulating international organizations tackling aspects of good governance. Participants will get to have in-depth and hands-on knowledge on the twelve principles of good governance, the importance of examining indices including Fragility States Index (FSI), and pillars of good governance in civic society, international organizations, education, and public sector.

Who we are?

This LAU simulation model is in partnership with the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom (FNF).

The Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom (FNF) is a German foundation devoted to the promotion of liberal principles and to political education. FNF was established in 1958 by Prof. Theodor Heuss, the first President of the Federal Republic of Germany. The goal of the foundation is to advance the principles of freedom and dignity for all people in all areas of society, both in Germany and abroad. FNF is active in over 60 countries around the world, spanning Europe, Africa, Asia, North and Central America. Within these project countries, our regional offices work to support human rights, rule of law, and democracy.

FNF Lebanon and Syria promotes liberal thinking and liberal policies in cooperation with local partners by organizing activities of civic education, seminars, conferences, supporting publications, and international political dialogues. FNF provides political consulting mainly to liberal political parties in order to improve their programmatic basis, their strategic orientation and their political communication with citizens. FNF strongly believe in election-based democracy for all, so FNF works with many liberal political parties all throughout the region.
